2012: Biography of a Time Traveler is a universal story.
This is the story of the transformation of a man who held to his vision all of his life. From the time he was fourteen, he was moved, guided, and led by this vision. This is no ordinary vision. It is the vision of the closing of the cycle of history—2012—and the opening of the new cycle. As this story shows, to hold such a vision, to nurture it and let it speak its truth is in itself a prophetic and mythic assignment.
2012: Biography of a Time Traveler is the story of a visionary for our time. Because this is such an all-encompassing message, it seemed the story should be told in as simple a manner as possible. By presenting José´s life as a story, I felt I could more directly engage the reader to understand, in a personal way, the meaning of the message.
This is neither a traditional biography nor an academic one. Rather, it reveals the psychomythic transformation of one human who realizes himself as the universal human, and brings forth a simple message for humankind: Return to the cycles of nature before it´s too late! In single-minded pursuit of delivering this message, José traveled the world several times over. As a consequence, the richness of his life experience is astonishingly varied and unique.
2012: Biography of a Time Traveler serves as a cosmic alarm clock reminding us of the Greater Dream laid out in signs and synchronicities, if we have the courage to listen. This story also shows that perseverance and pursuit of truth are not humanly controlled, but divinely guided. Such inspired pursuits naturally cause one to seek pathways outside of the social norm. The life of José Arguelles is the story of an iconoclastic visionary. Despite all odds, it was necessary for him to break some rules. How else could genuinely new information and a renewed vision of reality come into being?
2012: Biography of a Time Traveler was born in a dream. Prior to meeting José, I had a vivid dream where I saw him walking along a vacant street in a large sprawling city, strangely empty—the world had stopped—and he was demonstrating to me time travel. Several dreams followed in which José appeared demonstrating time travel and telepathy often in remote locations. I then met him in 1998 at the 28th annual Whole Earth Festival in Davis, California. This is where I first heard his message: The human species is living in artificial time!
It was through following my dreams and a string of synchronicities that this book came to be. This is only the first half of the original text. This story is based on questions and answers and conversations, as well as on reading his works inclusive of books, papers, personal letters, articles, documents, and so forth. Throughout this process, my highest interest was to let his life story speak for itself. I was not interested in getting other accounts or points of view, as the world is full of opinions of every kind. I wanted the story to be told in as raw and real a way as possible so that it might show another way of being for those who are receptive.
This is a spiritual adventure of prophetic proportions and something that touches on the life of every human being on this planet today. 2012 is only a few years away; it is the end of the Mayan Great Cycle—and the beginning of a new evolutionary era. What will happen? That is the question many people’s minds. I hope this book will shed light on the answers.
